Zephyr’s Fighting Chance Fund

Zephyr's Fighting Chance Fund provides specialized, critical, and urgent veterinary care for shelter pets facing extraordinary medical needs. A gift to Zephyr's Fighting Chance Fund will help make veterinary care possible for shelter pets whose needs extend beyond routine medical care.

In September of 2025, Zephyr was found emaciated in a field in Otoe County. She was dangerously thin and weak when she arrived at Capital Humane Society, and we didn't know what the days ahead would bring.

But Zephyr was a fighter.

Our veterinary team began providing the intensive care she desperately needed, and as her condition required more specialized treatment, Zephyr traveled to Kansas State University for additional care. Day by day, she kept fighting.

And our community fought right alongside her.

Thousands of people followed Zephyr's journey. News outlets shared her story, messages of encouragement poured in, and people across our community rallied around this tiny dog who was determined to survive. Zephyr became something of a local celebrity, with an entire community cheering her on.

Slowly, the fragile dog who had arrived fighting for her life began to heal. And eventually, we shared the update everyone had been hoping for: Zephyr was going home. She is now healthy, loved, and exactly where she belongs.

Her story could end there. But we think Zephyr's fighting chance should be the beginning of something bigger. Cue the Zephyr’s Fighting Chance Fund. Zephyr got her fighting chance, now, her legacy can give one to the next pet who needs it.
