On-site Humane Education Programs

  • Compassion Towards Animals

    30 minute interactive storytelling lesson utilizing a humane education picture book followed by a walk through of the adoption floor. 

    Animal interaction is not a part of this presentation.

  • Safety & Respect: Understanding Animal Body Language

    40 minute presentation teaches students basic information about the ways animals communicate their needs and emotions through body language. Understanding what an animal is saying increases empathy and respect and can also keep children safe. Includes Q & A.

    A 5-10 minute animal interaction at the end of the presentation is dependent on the temperament of the animals available at the time and behavior of the group throughout the presentation.

  • All About CHS

    30 minute presentation covers all you've ever wanted to know about CHS.  Learn about the history of the organization, how animals find their way to they shelter, as well information on programs and services offered by CHS that help both people and their pets. Find out how you can get involved in our mission and make a difference in the lives of shelter animals. Includes Q & A.

  • Intro to Animal Welfare

    40 minute presentation teaches students about age appropriate animal related issues that we work with at CHS as well as abroad in animal welfare including spay and neuter, animal adoption and rehoming, consequences of puppy mills, animal emergencies and community cat programs.  Includes Q & A.

    A 5-10 minute animal interaction at the end of the presentation is dependent on the temperament of the animals available at the time and behavior of the group throughout the presentation.

  • Careers in Animal Welfare

    40 minute presentation covers information regarding the wide variety of career options available to those interested in sheltering or working with animals in the future.  Attendees will discuss the benefits and challenges of these careers and learn more about the training and education required to pursue them.  Includes  Q & A.

Group Shelter Tours

Visit our shelter for a group tour of the adoption floor led by a staff member or volunteer!

***Reservations are required for all tours.****

Shelter Tour Details: 

Length of tour: 20-25 minutes

  • Guided tour of the adoption floor: 15-20 minutes
  • Opportunity for Q & A: 5-10 minutes

Minimum Age: participants must be at least 4 years old

Group size: Tours require a minimum of five people and a maximum of 20 people. We can accommodate larger groups by scheduling multiple tours. Capacity includes all children and adults attending the tour. Groups of minors are required to be accompanied by adult chaperones. 

***The number of adults required to be present during the tour depends on the number of minors & their ages.***
