Adopting A Pet Is A Lifetime Commitment
Welcome to the Capital Humane Society. We
would like to make your selection of a new pet an enjoyable learning
experience. The total process will take approximately 30 minutes. Please read the information below
carefully. If you have any questions, please ask one of the office
staff. They will be happy to give you the information you need to make an
informed decision regarding this adoption.
tCOST The average adoption cost at the Capital
Humane Society is $90, and it doesn't stop there. Additional costs for a pet
will include food, litter, leash, license, vaccinations, veterinary care,
fencing, shelter, etc. For example, a larger dog may cost upwards of $500 to
$800 per year to maintain. A single cat may cost in excess of $200 per year to
maintain.
tCOMMITMENT We are looking for a lifetime guardian for
all pets leaving the Capital Humane Society. With the adoption of a kitten or
puppy, that commitment could involve the next fifteen to twenty years,
depending on the breed. Commitment includes taking the animal with you when you
move, proper training of the animal, medical care and sharing time with the
animal to meet its needs for physical activity and psychological fulfillment on
a daily basis.
tCONVENIENCE Living with a pet is not always convenient -
it involves work. You will need to clean-up after your pet. You will also need
to feed, water, exercise and spend quality time with your pet on a daily basis.
Be
prepared for occasional property damage throughout your pet's lifetime.
If your pet needs to be let out at 3 a.m., are you willing to get out of bed?
tSTERILIZATION All cats, dogs and rabbits adopted from the
Capital Humane Society have been sterilized to ensure they are not contributing
to the pet overpopulation problem.
I have read and understand the information provided above.
